Love Magazine Autumn/Winter Issue: Review

This week when I was out shopping I decided to treat myself to a fashion magazine, they are an amazing source of inspiration, especially since I am starting university soon I will need to be reading lots of magazines. Love magazine is mesmerizing to me, full of really creative fashion editorials, in depth interviews where you really get a feel of a person and super cute doodles all over the pages. The makeup is colourful, crazy and fun. Love is definitely not your average magazine.

I love how each issue has a theme. The Autumn/Winter theme is goths and youth, and the whole issue runs wild with the theme. The styling and photography is so beautifully done and has got me right in the mood for Halloween. The stand out article was Margot Robbie and Cara Delevinge interviewing each other. It was no typical interview though, they chatted away about famous people they had in their phone and the weirdest place they'd ever had sex. It really made you want to be their best friends.

I'm such a big nerd when it comes to LETTERING. The flowers twisting round the Love logo is so intricate, and this sort of detailing is what makes the design of the magazine so beautiful.

In the magazine the photography is quite often weird and unusual. I love the two different colours of lipstick on this photograph, it's a really striking, strange image. So I love that this is the contents page so it really gives you a feel for the magazine.

The photoshoot with models licking and biting certain objects is probably my favourite photoshoot in the whole issue. It shows the glossiness of the lipstick and is the sort of thing that would be considered too dirty or disgusting to be in another magazine, but Love really pushes the boundaries and it's really interesting to look at.

The gothic styling in this issue is so magical.

Black and white shots can be really stunning and remind me of old Hollywood movie stills. A lot of the photographs are really atmospheric and look almost like candid shots.

This photoshoot with Kaia Gerber was great because the styling and scenery was very casual and summery. Several of the shots were taken on the beach and with sun setting, so it had a really beachy feel to it.
I love grungey makeup and hair, definitely something I will be experimenting more with in Autumn.

DOGS!!!!!! "humans, why have you put this sheet over us to try and be artsy. The things I go through in my dog modelling jobs, it's all worth it in the end because I get sausage" - what I imagine the dogs might say in this shot. Very well done great modelling doggos.

To sum up, Love is probably the best fashion magazine out there, and there are dogs in this issue. Golden Retrievers as well. Enough said, I think.

Review: Makeup Revolution Unicorns Unite Palette | Cruelty Free

Recently I discovered my new favourite makeup brand, Makeup Revolution! After discovering they don't test their products or ingredients on animals, I decided to give them a try and at £4.99 it is a bargain! I found the colours to be incredibly pigmented, much more so than more expensive palettes I have tried in the past. I am so in love with all the shades, they are so magical and perfect for experimenting with really unique looks! The shades are incredibly bright and maybe not for an everyday look, but you will definitely look like a colourful unicorn at parties!

The packaging is super pretty and colourful, the pictures really don't do it justice. it is a purple holographic card, I definitely think a unicorn would approve!

I mixed the shimmer grey and the matte pink shades and I really like the mixture of the two. I am working on blending different shades together.

Have you tried this palette? Have you tried any other Makeup Revolution products?

Edge of seventeen: Spring music playlist & art

Hello there! I've discovered so much great music lately, I thought I'd share some of my favourites and show you some of my drawings along the way!

A classic song that's new to me... Stevie Nicks // edge of seventeen

I'm a massive Fleetwood Mac fan, and it seems like all of their songs from the eighties have a really cool vibe to them. I love how this song is sung with such passion. It's strange discovering music from decades ago because it feels like I'm discovering new music. I think it's great that future generations can discover great music from the past.

A song I listen to late at night... Misty Miller // taxi cab

I found Misty Miller's music through 'related artists' on spotify and have been hooked ever since. I love the lyric "blood and glitter out on the pavement." Misty has such a unique and beautiful voice. The music video is a bit terrifying though. It involves zombies.

A song from a band I've only just heard of... Sunset Sons // medicine

When I heard this song played on radio one by Scott Mills a couple of days ago, I instantly loved it! Been listening to more of Sunset Sons music today and I think I've found a new favourite band. The lyrics are very meaningful and it's also pretty catchy. Been a long time since I've heard a song this great, reminds me of when I started listening to the 1975.

A song that would be good for night driving... Catfish and the bottlemen // Kathleen

I've liked Catfish and the bottlemen for a while and I love their album The Balcony. This song seems to be always stuck in my head lately. The lyric "it's impractical. to go out and catch a death with a dress fit for the summer." it reminds me of myself, I never dress appropriately for the weather. All the lyrics are really beautiful.

Do you like any of these songs? Do you have any song or band recommendations? Let me know!

See you in my next post, Melissa xxx

My new favourite creative read: Oh Comely

I've got such a big imagination, so it's nice to read a magazine that enriches that and runs wild with imagination.

I picked this up browsing the fashion magazines in whsmith's and I thought this one looked a bit different and interesting. The cover really appealed to me because it wasn't jam packed with writing, I love the simplicity of it.

I love how Oh Comely is about real people, not celebrities. The pictures aren't immensely photoshopped, they show a diverse range of body types and ethnicities, they aren't obsessed with how to lose weight and how to get the perfect eyebrows. "It celebrates being yourself and being different, which I feel like more people, especially women, need to see."

It's very refreshing to read a magazine on the fashion shelves of whsmith's that is about creativity, not conforming or thinking about what's popular this season. All the unique little illustrations, photographs and artwork make me want to put pen to paper and work on projects. It makes me very happy that "there is a magazine out there that is encouraging women to be supportive or each other, and encourage each other to be creative." It reminds me of a grown up version of rookie in that way.

Have you ever read Oh Comely? What is your favourite magazine right now?

See ya soon,

A Touch Of Christmas Magic & Sparkle

Christmas is so magical to me. As you may know, I have an obsession with anything glittery, sparkly,  and magical. Christmas is a great time for all of those things. So here are my favourite beauty products and accessories of the season.

My outfits never seem quite finished until they have some sort of novelty headband added to the mix. I thought this headband was perfect for this time of year: A flower crown that captures the essence of winter. It is so beautiful and delicate, I'll be wearing it day and night.

I'm so glad I discovered Lush this year, as everything about their products are magical, with Snow fairies' bright and exciting packaging and the variety of amazing smells. The Snow Fairy gift set was one of my favourite Christmas gifts. All the products are absolutely divine.

The magic wand bubble bar is so dreamy. It turns the water pink so you can feel like a real fairy princess. The bell and decorations are also adorable.

The snow fairy shower gel feels like being sprinkled with fairy dust. It actually looks like pink glitter on your skin.

I've always been obsessed with Barry M's nail polishes, they are such high quality for their price. When I saw this shade it was love at first sight. A coat of this shade of glittery pink goes perfectly with a strip of silver nail polish.

If you enjoyed this post and like glittery make up and all things fairy-like, you make like this makeup tutorial I made above ♥

What was the best Christmas present you received? Love, Melissa xx

// My New Favourite Magazine: Nylon //

I've read this magazine a few times before and it is quickly becoming one of my favourite magazines. Nylon is an American magazine that has lots of amazing articles about fashion, beauty, music, film, art and celebrities.

First impressions of the magazine
It caught my eye as it looked more interesting and unique than the other magazines on the shelves. It has a very iconic, alternative look.

Fashion
The fashion in Nylon is quite simple and classic, but unique. The shoots are very atmospheric and inspirational. They are not just about the clothes, they tell a story and you could imagine yourself there. That is something I love about fashion shoots. In the august 2014 issue, there is a fashion story called 'After School Special' which is my personal favourite. It features a lot of tartan, denim jackets, cute pastel dresses and jumpers.

Beauty

I love the beauty section of Nylon. It features very colourful and creative layouts such as this one, 'Light Bright' Their beauty articles articles are also more than just simple everyday makeup. The pictures in a story from their august 2014 issue, 'Brave New World' is all about is all about crazy, brave makeup trends that most people would be afraid to try. The picture 'Curious Bloom' is my favourite, with the beautiful shade of bright pink blush.

Music
Nylon covers a variety of music including indie, hip-hop, surf-pop, dance and folk. I love that there are so many different genres written about, people can read about the singers they already know about and be introduced to some new music along the way. I have noticed that there is focus on female musicians, with musicians such as Lana Del Rey and HAIM being on the cover.

Have you ever read Nylon? What is your favourite magazine? Love Melissa xx
