July Music Playlist

Here's what I've been listening to this month...

- If you like The 1975, you're sure to like Blossoms, an amazing new band from Manchester. Their songs Charlemagne and At Most A Kiss are fun indie psychedelic pop and are great for dancing during the rest of summer.

- Heathrow is a soothing acoustic-y song, and probably my favourite song from Catfish and The Bottlemen's new album. It is a good song for long car journeys and also good for listening in the dark. It is a very sweet romantic song that reminds me of a track from their first album 'Hourglass'

- My current obsession is Panic! At The Disco (I'm very late to the party, didn't have a scene phase until age 18.) This is the perfect party song and is so infectious, you'll be singing it in no time!

- Last summer I became obsessed with Don Broco and their albums 'Automatic' and 'Priorities' and thus song is already my new favourite. It's perfect if you want to get into more rock music but also love a good catchy song. I can't stop playing it!

What music are you listening to at the moment? What would you recommend?

The 1975 concert Manchester

The other night I went to see the 1975 in concert at the 02 Apollo in Manchester. I've wanted to see the, for so long as I've been listening to their music for nearly 3 years. After all the anticipation they certainly didn't disappoint!

I really enjoyed the opening act, The Japanese House. I hadn't hearts of them before so now I've been introduced to one of my favourite bands!

They played mostly songs from their new album (which I am in love with!) when they played my favourite song The Sound, the atmosphere was incredible and everyone jumping up and down and singing along. They also sang some of their older songs such as chocolate, sex, heart out and you. These are the songs that made me a fan of them so it was amazing to finally hear them live. The saxophone parts of the were so amazing to hear live.

The backdrops of the where so bright and in pretty pastel colours. There was a lot of pink lighting used (they definitely know how to please me!)

January playlist

Here's what I've been listening to this month...

Afterlife - Arcade Fire
This isn't a new song, but it is new to me as I have discovered it recently. This song gives me a melancholy feeling and is very atmospheric. It reminds me of car drives late at night.

Clearest blue - Chvrches
I love all chvrches' music, and this song is no different. It sounds like an 80's pop song and is really great to dance around to. Lauren's vocals are also amazing.

The sound - The 1975
I'm so excited to hear the 1975's new album, I couldn't resist playing some of the live versions on YouTube. I fell in love with this one immediately, it's such a fun, upbeat song with cheeky lyrics like, "oh baby won't you cum again?" This song has made me so excited to go to their concert next month! I've also loved somebody else and she's American.

Post blue - Placebo
I've only recently started listening to placebo, and I think I've found a band I can really relate to and makes me feel something. This song really stands out to me and has beautiful lingering lyrics like, "it's in the water baby, it's in the special way we fuck."

Hope, you enjoyed! What have you been listening to lately? Let me know in the comments!

Summer music playlist 2015

This is what I've been listening to throughout the summer!

♡ Automatic // Don Broco

Such a happy, summery song. Wherever in the world you are, it will transport you to a pool on a hot day. I'm really excited for Don Broco's new album to come out in a few days! I also recommend the songs What You Do To Me and You Wanna Know.

♡ Just For A Minute // San Cisco

In my summer playlist last year, I talked about the song Beach by San Cisco. Now they've released a new album and I'm certainly not disappointed! I'm more in love with their music than ever before.

♡  Young Blood // Saint Raymond

I saw Saint Raymond live supporting Ed Sheeran last october and immediately became a fan. This is such a fan indie pop jam, great for parties. And now I really want to see him live again!

♡ Your Love's Whore // Wolf Alice

Ellie Rowsell's vocals on this song are so beautiful and dreamy. Perfect for listening on long plane rides and long car journeys.

♡ Free // Cody Simpson

If you like acoustic, beachy music with a little bit of reggae, you'll love Cody Simpson's new album. So different from anything else he has done before, this album shows how much of a talented guitarist he is.

♡ Grand Affection // Swim Deep

Swim Deep's first album, Where The Heaven Are We, became my obsession two years ago. I'm really excited by their new music. Grand Affection is a lovely, atmospheric song.

What did you think of these songs? What are you listening to at the moment?

Edge of seventeen: Spring music playlist & art

Hello there! I've discovered so much great music lately, I thought I'd share some of my favourites and show you some of my drawings along the way!

A classic song that's new to me... Stevie Nicks // edge of seventeen

I'm a massive Fleetwood Mac fan, and it seems like all of their songs from the eighties have a really cool vibe to them. I love how this song is sung with such passion. It's strange discovering music from decades ago because it feels like I'm discovering new music. I think it's great that future generations can discover great music from the past.

A song I listen to late at night... Misty Miller // taxi cab

I found Misty Miller's music through 'related artists' on spotify and have been hooked ever since. I love the lyric "blood and glitter out on the pavement." Misty has such a unique and beautiful voice. The music video is a bit terrifying though. It involves zombies.

A song from a band I've only just heard of... Sunset Sons // medicine

When I heard this song played on radio one by Scott Mills a couple of days ago, I instantly loved it! Been listening to more of Sunset Sons music today and I think I've found a new favourite band. The lyrics are very meaningful and it's also pretty catchy. Been a long time since I've heard a song this great, reminds me of when I started listening to the 1975.

A song that would be good for night driving... Catfish and the bottlemen // Kathleen

I've liked Catfish and the bottlemen for a while and I love their album The Balcony. This song seems to be always stuck in my head lately. The lyric "it's impractical. to go out and catch a death with a dress fit for the summer." it reminds me of myself, I never dress appropriately for the weather. All the lyrics are really beautiful.

Do you like any of these songs? Do you have any song or band recommendations? Let me know!

See you in my next post, Melissa xxx

Taking Fashion Inspiration From Songs #2

Looking back at my older posts, one of my favourites was taking fashion inspiration from songs. I think it's a really interesting way of getting style inspiration. The music that I listen to puts me in certain mood; romantic, excited for summer, want to dance and go to parties. When I'm in a certain mood, it makes me want to wear certain clothes and makeup. So here are some of my favourite songs right now and the outfits inspired by them! (All images are from polyvore)

1) Tango in The Night // Fleetwood Mac

I imagine the lyrics of this song taking place in midsummer. "Listen to the waves on the shore." suggests the song takes place on the coast, and I imagine it being warm weather. "Then I remember." suggests the song is about daydreaming, fantasy and lust. The dress on the left is an evening dress suitable for warm weather. I picked out the shell clutch as the song is set by the sea. Jelly shoes are appropriate for walking on the coast and the sea. The song is very sad, romantic and dreamy, the I tried not the make the clothes to dressy, just floaty, feminine and dreamy.

2) Cigarette Daydreams // Cage The Elephant

I imagine the events of this song taking place in early autumn. It is about the end of a relationship. It is quite dark, which is why purple and black are the colour story in this collage. "looking for answers in the pouring rain." suggests that the story is miserable and dull. I included a Ragged Priest metallic jacket (which I love!) and umbrella to be practical for the weather. There is a lyric "you were only seventeen." So I picked out clothes a seventeen year old would wear, such as the leather crop top and choker, and messy bun.

Cocoon // Catfish and The Bottlemen

This song is definitely my favourite right now. There are a lot of parties in the events of this song, "I fell straight in to your arms like a drunk." and "you'd stay and try to out-drink me." There is a lot of mention of alcohol. The lyric "and the sun's up." makes me think it takes place in summer. I picked out a lot of partywear such as the lace dress and heels. I think the song about being carefree in the summer, letting loose, experimenting with drugs and alcohol and getting to know a certain person. I think the outfits I put together reflect that especially the 'sleep with whomever you want' t-shirt.

Sorry if I sounded like an english lit teacher throughout that! What are your favourite songs right now? love, Melissa xxx

// Summer Music Playlist 2014 //

 1. Seaside // The Kooks
I first heard this song in the shop Ark a few months ago and immediately fell in love with it. The song is about falling in the love at the seaside, something I have always wanted to do. the lyrics are incredible, especially "I'm just trying to love you girl." I definitely need to listen to this when I'm at a beach some time this summer.

I heard this song for the first time very recently and I became obsessed with it after the first listen. I've been listening to a lot of other songs by the same band, my other favorite is 'a part of me' I usually don't like pop punk music, so I didn't think I would like it, but they are so much more original than other bands. The lyrics to 'growing pains' are perfect and along with the 1975's album, they are the soundtrack to my teenage years.

The song is very atmospheric and just sounds like summer, it lifts my mood and makes me feel happier. It would be the perfect setting to a late night summer party. It also brings back memories of when I was younger and I've rediscovered all that music. My other favorite Fleetwood Mac songs are 'Say You Love Me, 'Dreams' and 'Little Lies'

I discovered this song late last summer and have been listening to it again recently. The lyrics perfectly capture the best parts of summer; "we watched the sun go down and then the moon comes out, paint pictures with your hands I'll chase you I'm your biggest fan." It is perfect for hazy days and nights by the British seaside.

If you have any song suggestions, defintely tell me them in the comments! Melissa xx

Taking Fashion Inspiration From Songs

It's not just flicking through fashion magazines and blogs that gives me outfit inspiration. Listening to songs also gives me ideas of what to wear. I like to imagine what the people in the lyrics of the song would be wearing at the time. So I thought I'd share some of my favorite songs and the inspiration I get from them.

Stay Out // Nina Nesbitt
This is a really beautiful song, one of my favorite lyrics is "stay out tonight, and see through my eyes" and "All these boys and girls are people looking for someone to be." The song is about going out in the evening and all the different things you would see there. I think it During the events of the lyrics of this song, I think the sort of clothes that would be worn are crop tops, high waisted shorts and skorts and red lipstick. The characters in the song would wear a lot of black as it goes with the night sky and the atmosphere of the song. There will also be a lot of sequins as the characters may be attending a party. As most of the outfit would be quite dressed up, they would wear a causal denim jacket over the top.

King City // Swim Deep

I have a lot of memories with this song, It particularly reminds me of an event that happened last summer. It is a very atmospheric song with beautiful lyrics, one of my favorites is: "Cause I'm in love so old,  put your flowers down, it's so cold." The lyrics of the song are about falling in love and the feelings that come along with it. The lyric "With the sun on my back it's a nice day" suggests the events of the song take place in summer, and reminds me of sunsets. The clothes that the characters would wear is a lot of tie dye prints, faded colours, pastels, floaty fabrics and flowers. They would wear a lot of denim shorts in the daytime and dresses in the evening with flower crowns.

Smells Like Teen Spirit // Nirvana
There are many different interpretations of the lyrics of this song, but personally I think the characters in this song could be popular high school students with a 90's style. The quirky clothing brand Glitters For Dinner is perfect for this, with their preppy, cheerleader style skirts and plaid clueless outfits is what I think the characters would wear. They would also make the girly outfits more casual by wearing denim jackets, complete with patches of different bands. To complete the look, they would wear really cute tattoo chokers in different colours.

These are some little illustrations showing the different types of fashion for each song. I am really pleased with the denim pocket and lipstick drawings for 'Stay Out' I think I'm improving a lot with drawing. See you soon, there will be lots of personal style posts coming soon! Melissa xxx

I'm not a white teeth teen, I tried to join but never did

White Teeth Teens // Lorde

I absolutely adore this outfit, It's classy and smart but still really cute. I love to wear white ankle socks with these short Mary Jane heels. I also like to wear this outfit with my pink blazer to add in some extra colour and look more smart. I'm also wearing a braid in my hair and a choker to make the look even more pretty and summery.
I really want to wear this outfit to a restaurant, party or concert this summer.

I thought I would try wearing a denim jacket over my pink playsuit, to make it more casual as the playsuit is very smart and structured. This also makes it more versatile as it can wear it for a variety of occasions, not just in the evening. The shoes and sock combo also make it look a bit more quirky.

One of my favorite things for the summer is lipstick. The great thing about lipstick is that you can wear it as often as you like as it's not bad for your skin, and they come in such an amazing variety of colours. One of my favorites is Topshop Rio Rio, it is an amazing red colour. I also love Baby Lips, I genuinely think they live up to the hype and since using them, I have noticed a significant improvement in my lips. Since I've had so much spare time this summer I've been making a lot of bows, they are so cute and easy to make and they really suit the outfits that I wear.

One of my all time favorite album's is The 1975's self titled album. It is such beautiful music. My favorite tracks are Heart Out, Settle Down, Pressure and Talk. I highly recommend you check it out, there's a mix of happy, sad and chilled songs. Other albums I love are CHVRCHES' The Bones Of What You Believe, Lana Del Rey's Ultraviolence and Iggy Azalea's The New Classic. I have quite an eclectic music taste.

I have also been sketching a lot, I love to take pictures of flowers and then draw them. I am also thinking of making my own flower crowns. Hope you are having a good summer,

Outfits & Songs For A Summer Adventure!

It's been the summer holidays for me for a week now and I have a lot of time to relax but I just really want to get outside and have amazing adventures! The weather is gorgeous and I want to make lots of new friends and memories. An outfit that would be perfect for those times is this one, I love the colours on it and it just fits together perfectly!

I think the red velvet top and the purple shorts go together so well. The accessories I am wearing with it is a necklace and choker. I really like layering my choker with a necklace at the moment. I am topping the outfit off with a flower crown and jelly shoes (of course.) I would wear this outfits for a day of shopping and exploring the city with friends. The songs that would fit the day I wear the outfit would be:

- Golden City // Coasts
- Follow Baby // Peace
- The City // The 1975
- Night Sky // CHVRCHES
- She Changes The Weather // Swim Deep
-  400 Lux // Lorde
- How Soon Is Now // The Smiths
- We Own The Sky // M83

The second outfit is definitely my favorite at the moment. I think the yellow skort stands out so much against the purple top. The kimono has gorgeous pattern on it and is so colourful, which I love. I am also wearing my other flower crown, which is so pretty. I would wear this outfit to a party, a meal in the evening, a concert or watching the sun set. The songs of the day I would wear this outfit are:

- Sunset // Avalanche City
- My Number // Foals
- Any Way I Can // Walk The Moon
- Everywhere // Fleetwood Mac
- Move // Mausi
- Boom Clap // Charli XCX
- This Charming Man // The Smiths
- If So // Atlas Genius
- You // The 1975
- My Friend Has A Swimming Pool // Mausi

Hope you enjoyed! If you have any song suggestions please write them down in the comments because I always love finding new music! Lots of love Melissa xxx
