DIY: Faux fur pink flower headband

This is a unique little twist on a basic flower crown. It is so easy to make and will only take you 10 minutes to make! I love the faux fur as it makes it look more edgy. This headband will really make a simple outfit stand out.

You will need:

♥ Fabric flowers
♥ A small amount of pink fur
♥ Ribbon
♥ Scissors
♥ Fabric glue

How to make:

Take the pink ribbon, fit it around your head and cut it to the size you would like. Then using a tiny amount of fabric glue, secure the flowers faux fur to the ribbon. Wait at least 5 minutes for the fabric glue to dry and now you can tie your ribbon around your head and wear your headband! You can also attach clasps to the ribbon to keep the headband in place.

Here are my finished results!

Hope you enjoyed, more DIY's soon!

My new favourite creative read: Oh Comely

I've got such a big imagination, so it's nice to read a magazine that enriches that and runs wild with imagination.

I picked this up browsing the fashion magazines in whsmith's and I thought this one looked a bit different and interesting. The cover really appealed to me because it wasn't jam packed with writing, I love the simplicity of it.

I love how Oh Comely is about real people, not celebrities. The pictures aren't immensely photoshopped, they show a diverse range of body types and ethnicities, they aren't obsessed with how to lose weight and how to get the perfect eyebrows. "It celebrates being yourself and being different, which I feel like more people, especially women, need to see."

It's very refreshing to read a magazine on the fashion shelves of whsmith's that is about creativity, not conforming or thinking about what's popular this season. All the unique little illustrations, photographs and artwork make me want to put pen to paper and work on projects. It makes me very happy that "there is a magazine out there that is encouraging women to be supportive or each other, and encourage each other to be creative." It reminds me of a grown up version of rookie in that way.

Have you ever read Oh Comely? What is your favourite magazine right now?

See ya soon,

Bright Rainbow Sprinkles Makeup Tutorial

It's getting closer and closer to spring so I'm putting more bright and unusual colours in to my makeup routine. This is really pretty, fresh and unique look, I'd love to wear it at a festival in the summer!

Products I used:

♡ Revlon pink eyeshadow
♡ Real Techniques base shadow brush
♡ Barry M blue kohl pencil
♡ Seventeen mascara
♡ Fine glitter dust by Barry M
♡ Pink Punch Maybelline Baby Lips

I applied the Barry M kohl pencil on my lash line and water line, with a cat eye flick on the side. This really brightens up my eyes and makes me look more awake. I then used the Real Techniques base shadow brush on my eyelids and in the crease. I love the contrast between the blue and the pink, they strangely compliment each other!

To make my eyelashes stand out and look fresh, I applied several coats of seventeen mascara to my
lash line and water line. This is such a good mascara for on a budget, it's great for volumizing and lengthening, To add a touch of fun I drew a small heart on my cheek with the eyeliner. This looks a bit crazy but I think it's really playful and pulls the whole look together.

I'm not really a fan of bright or dark lipstick colours, so I applied some good old pink baby lips and a little glitter on top.

I think I've really improved with my makeup skills and I'm really with how this turned out yay! What makeup have you been wearing right now? What are your favourite products? See ya all soon,
Melissa xx

Taking Fashion Inspiration From Songs #2

Looking back at my older posts, one of my favourites was taking fashion inspiration from songs. I think it's a really interesting way of getting style inspiration. The music that I listen to puts me in certain mood; romantic, excited for summer, want to dance and go to parties. When I'm in a certain mood, it makes me want to wear certain clothes and makeup. So here are some of my favourite songs right now and the outfits inspired by them! (All images are from polyvore)

1) Tango in The Night // Fleetwood Mac

I imagine the lyrics of this song taking place in midsummer. "Listen to the waves on the shore." suggests the song takes place on the coast, and I imagine it being warm weather. "Then I remember." suggests the song is about daydreaming, fantasy and lust. The dress on the left is an evening dress suitable for warm weather. I picked out the shell clutch as the song is set by the sea. Jelly shoes are appropriate for walking on the coast and the sea. The song is very sad, romantic and dreamy, the I tried not the make the clothes to dressy, just floaty, feminine and dreamy.

2) Cigarette Daydreams // Cage The Elephant

I imagine the events of this song taking place in early autumn. It is about the end of a relationship. It is quite dark, which is why purple and black are the colour story in this collage. "looking for answers in the pouring rain." suggests that the story is miserable and dull. I included a Ragged Priest metallic jacket (which I love!) and umbrella to be practical for the weather. There is a lyric "you were only seventeen." So I picked out clothes a seventeen year old would wear, such as the leather crop top and choker, and messy bun.

Cocoon // Catfish and The Bottlemen

This song is definitely my favourite right now. There are a lot of parties in the events of this song, "I fell straight in to your arms like a drunk." and "you'd stay and try to out-drink me." There is a lot of mention of alcohol. The lyric "and the sun's up." makes me think it takes place in summer. I picked out a lot of partywear such as the lace dress and heels. I think the song about being carefree in the summer, letting loose, experimenting with drugs and alcohol and getting to know a certain person. I think the outfits I put together reflect that especially the 'sleep with whomever you want' t-shirt.

Sorry if I sounded like an english lit teacher throughout that! What are your favourite songs right now? love, Melissa xxx

Isn't it midnight on the other side of the world

I've been putting together some really pretty outfits recently so I thought I would have a spontaneous photoshoot in my room (if you don't like pink, look away now)

I was obsessed with this ark playsuit for a while and I'm so glad I finally got it in the boxing day sales! The lacy side sleeves are really gorgeous and unique! I hate wearing a coat with this playsuit as I like showing it off. The stunning greek headband is from Miss Selfridge, this will be perfect the summer and evenings by the sea. To add a little bit of 90's and magic this blue quartz choker tops the outfit off.

This outfit is totally inappropriate for the weather currently (I was freezing taking these pictures!) But I cannot wait to wear them as it gets warmer. I've seen a lot of bloggers wear this motel moon and stars crop top in the summer and I've had my eye on it ever since. It was probably my best purchase in the boxing day sales!

It's far too cold too wear these shorts for quite a while, but when I saw them on the rail in Thunder Egg I just couldn't not get them. The intricate little detailing in the embroidery is so gorgeous and delicate. I have a feeling I'll be going on lots of adventures in these shorts!

I'm going to dye my hair pink soon (YAY!) but in the meantime I tried out some spray in hair colour, which was really gross and got all over my hands.

Have a lovely day, hope you all had a good Christmas holidays! See you soon, Melissa xx

15 things I want to do in 2015

It's very cliché, but I've been feeling very optimistic in the past few days about 2015. In 2014 I grew so much, did lots of amazing things and learn so much. I want this year to even better, there's lots I want to achieve. I'm so excited to see what happens!

1) Make more art. I've improved quite a bit in the past year and I'm determined to get better. I want to paint more, take more pictures, make more collages, design more clothes!

2) Gain confidence. I feel like I am so far behind people my age in terms of confidence. Talking to people is very difficult for me, I think a lot of people would describe me as having 'social anxiety.' Hopefully I will make more progress and be much more confident in 2015 :)

3) Don't be afraid. My shyness has ruined a lot of great opportunities. This is all going to change, I'm going to seize every day!

4) Dye my hair pink.

5) Make friends from other places in the country.

6) Maybe make a friend or two through blogging!

7) Work really hard at college and get a distinction (A) in my final major project.

8) Be more spontaneous.

9) Stroke more cats.

10) Go to as many beaches as possible.

11) Take lots of outfit pictures for my blog and post every week!

12) Be more pink and colourful. I don't think that's possible for me, but I'll try.

13) Fall in love with myself more.

14) Go to more parties and make amazing memories.

15) Always be smiling :) I have so much to be happy about and so much to smile about.

Wishing you all a wonderful new year, Melissa xx What do you want to do in the new year?
