Barbie Girl

I've been in love with everything kitsch ever since I saw the Moschino Barbie collection. I was so happy when I saw this gorgeous little t-shirt at h&m.

Barbie was such a massive part of my childhood. She's had a lot of controversy in recent years for having such an unhealthy body image. However she has had over 150 careers! At a very young age dressing up my Barbie dolls and making clothes for them, I discovered I had a passion for fashion.

I think this metallic lilac bag I picked up from New Look is gorgeous and really fits in with the theme. I think it's definitely the sort of bag Barbie would put her school books in!

When I these pastel yellow checked socks in Primark, they really brought back memories of primary school! I think that bright and pastel pink really go with pastel yellow.

Since I'm in quite a nostalgic mood now, I put together this extremely cheese-filled 90's playlist on Spotify. I listened to all these songs when I was young so they all remind me of getting dressed up (and dressing up my dolls)

Pastels, Glitter, Butterflies // February favourite things

I don't see how bright and pastel colours should be confined to a certain part of the year. Even when it's cold and dull outside, I still decorate myself brightly. Mix that with glitter and sparkle left over from Christmas, and that's what I'm wearing currently!

Here are a few of my favourite things...

♥ Makeup academy poptastic palette

As soon as I saw this palette I thought, "this is so me!" It has pretty pink shades and also more daring colours such as turquoise and yellow. They really stand out and are great for adding a vibrant pop of colour to your look!

♥ My current outfit

I just wish I could wear this outfit everyday! It is ideal for parties. This playsuit from Topshop is stunning but it is practical enough for me to dance and run around in. The scrunchie from Ark keeps the top of my hair out of my face while still adding some colour. To add a little bit of cuteness, My flowery cat ears top it all off.

♥ Claire's glitter face paint

I know, I'm 16 years old, buying glitter face paint. But I thought this would be great for adding some sparkle around the corners of my eyes. or for an incredibly daring evening makeup look. I'm a little girl at heart, anything with glitter makes me very happy.

♥ Dippity  do hair crayon

I would love to dye my hair a ridiculous out there colour such as blue or pink. But I'd hate to damage to my hair and I'm not a fan of commitment. This little hair crayon is the perfect quick fix to add some vibrant colour to my hair. I was quite surprised how good quality it is!

For finishing touches, I love these delicate little butterfly hair clips from accessorize.

What are some of your favourite things right now? Melissa xxx

Teen lovers don't wait | Photography

Valentines day is here, and there's something about it that reminds me of a certain aesthetic, lace, lots of pink, lipstick and kissing. I've been inspired to make collages and take pictures with this theme.

I also tried to tell a little story about my ideal valentine's day with some of my favourite valentines songs and lyrics. Hope you enjoy something a bit different!

Teen lovers // the virgins
Teen lovers don't wait, vacation is over, don't wait

Linger // the cranberries
You know I'm such a fool for you, you got wrapped around your finger

Love me like you do // Ellie goulding
Your the cure, your the pain, your the only thing I wanna touch.

Falling for you // the 1975
I don't wanna be your friend, I wanna kiss your neck

King city // swim deep
Fuck your romance, I wanna pretend, that jenny lee Lindberg is my girlfriend.

Peace // wraith
You could be my ice age sugar, you lay me down and make me shiver, blow me like a floating feather

Wolf alice // fluffy
Sixteen so sweet! Sixteen! So sweet!

Have a lovely valentines day everyone. If you don't have a valentine then I'll be your valentine!

DIY: 90's Faux Fur Crop Top

I love looking at so many of the beautiful, 90's inspired clothes on tumblr. As I unfortunately can't really find anything like that on high street, I decided to make my own! This doesn't cost much to make at all, doesn't require any sewing and will only take you 10 minutes!

Things you will need:

♡ A plain crop top in the colour you would like  (I got mine from a charity shop, you can also use an old one)

 Fabric glitter paint

♡ Any length of pink faux fur you would like

♡ Fabric glue

I purchased everything at hobbycraft. Now you've got everything, let's get started!

I cut one piece of the faux fur and measured it to fit around the bottom of the crop top and used the fabric glue to stick it in place. The top is starting to come together now!

I also cut out two little pieces and added them to the very top of the crop top, it will look something like this:

To add a unique finishing touch, I used some of the fabric glitter paint to create little sprinkles of glitter on the top. Now we're done! I think the results look really stunning and I can't wait to wear mine!

Do you ever customise your clothes? Let me know if you try this DIY!

Edge of seventeen: Spring music playlist & art

Hello there! I've discovered so much great music lately, I thought I'd share some of my favourites and show you some of my drawings along the way!

A classic song that's new to me... Stevie Nicks // edge of seventeen

I'm a massive Fleetwood Mac fan, and it seems like all of their songs from the eighties have a really cool vibe to them. I love how this song is sung with such passion. It's strange discovering music from decades ago because it feels like I'm discovering new music. I think it's great that future generations can discover great music from the past.

A song I listen to late at night... Misty Miller // taxi cab

I found Misty Miller's music through 'related artists' on spotify and have been hooked ever since. I love the lyric "blood and glitter out on the pavement." Misty has such a unique and beautiful voice. The music video is a bit terrifying though. It involves zombies.

A song from a band I've only just heard of... Sunset Sons // medicine

When I heard this song played on radio one by Scott Mills a couple of days ago, I instantly loved it! Been listening to more of Sunset Sons music today and I think I've found a new favourite band. The lyrics are very meaningful and it's also pretty catchy. Been a long time since I've heard a song this great, reminds me of when I started listening to the 1975.

A song that would be good for night driving... Catfish and the bottlemen // Kathleen

I've liked Catfish and the bottlemen for a while and I love their album The Balcony. This song seems to be always stuck in my head lately. The lyric "it's impractical. to go out and catch a death with a dress fit for the summer." it reminds me of myself, I never dress appropriately for the weather. All the lyrics are really beautiful.

Do you like any of these songs? Do you have any song or band recommendations? Let me know!

See you in my next post, Melissa xxx
